The Communication Society held their general assembly for the second semester of AY 2015-2016 last Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Paz Adriano Little Theater from 9AM to 12NN. The event was entitled “Flipside: The Other You,” where Communication students were given the chance to unleash the “flipside” of what profession they like if they are to pursue a career in a different field. The assembly was hosted by the energetic COMMSOC P.R.O, Ikay Portillo and the fun-loving Annika Gamo, a senior Communication student.
The assembly began as Criel Quiazon, the President of the organization, gave her opening remarks on how Communication students are flexible enough to explore various fields. This was followed by a talk by Mr. Towpy Tejano, a graduate of BS Commerce in the University of Santo Tomas, a DJ from Mellow 94.7, an events host, and a businessman. He inspired students with his stories on how he was able to find his way after entering different fields, some of which are not even related to his course.
Several organizations such as the C*CATT Street, C*CATT Singers, C*CATT Models and the newly established MC Aria also graced the event with their exciting performances. Some students also got the chance to bring home raffle prices such as Fullybooked GCs, a 20% off on Eskwalahan 2016 planners and a Fujifilm instax camera. Jeula Guiab, a second year COMM student who dressed up as a unicorn won best costume and was awarded respectively.
Since it is the start of the semester, COMMSOC’s officers gave a sneak peak of what is in store for the students this semester which includes the Team Building Seminar with the theme: “Hue: Plunge Into Color,” Miss Commgeniality, Commpose: A Night For The Arts, and Bidyofest. The Department of Communication’s lovely chairperson, Dr. Acosta then took the stage to announce important matters. She was also happy to tell the students about Miriam College being recently identified by CHED as a Center of Development for Communication.
The event imparted a key message to the students that it is important to never forget who they are and to always remain true to themselves no matter what circumstances go their way. It ended at 12 noon which left the students hungry, but satisfied from the fun and meaningful GA. An exciting and joyful semester awaits!
