The Philippine Communication Society together with ABS-CBN’s Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo held their 4th workshop on Voters' Education for the 2016 Halalan at Philippine Information Agency Auditorium in the afternoon of October 23, 2015. The third year students of the Communication Department of Miriam College was one of the workshop’s participants, including schools from Polytechnic University of The Philippines, Pamantasan Lungsod ng Maynila, and University of the Philippines.
Bayan Mo, Ipatrol mo Voter’s Education Workshop aims to spread the awareness of their new campaign for Halalan 2016 – ‘Anti-Epal’ Campaign. Epalism is the practice of putting up billboards or signages bearing names, initials and images of government officials for their personal interests. Epalism promotes patronage politics, violates the law on fair play and teaches unethical values.
The workshop also encourages the youth to be active and to be responsible voters. They emphasized that everyone has the right to vote and to know what is happening within the government. The talk focuses on how the youth can make a change by being a citizen journalist. Citizen Journalism is where one can report a news event using the social media that will be send to ABS-CBN TV Patrol. Participants from different schools definitely enjoyed the workshop as they participate with different games but most importantly they were informed on being a responsible voter and being part of the citizen journalists.
